He was a boat builder and when first married lived at East Haven Conn. Before that he worked at Shelter Island where his first wife came from. After he sold the Brookhaven place in 1871, he and his family lived in Patchogue where he owned a shipyard on the west bank of the creek. William was the last owner of "the old Barteau place".

    "The story my aunt told me of her (her aunt) was that at 14, with her hair in pigtails and short dresses, she packed her valise and crawled out of the window and married Charley Cooke of Yaphank and ran away to sea with him. He "followed the sea" and Sal stayed at home in Brookhaven with her daugher Cecille and I have her diary of that time. Her two chief amusements seem to have been singing school and washing clothes! I wish I had known "Sal" for she seems a person with an immense zest for life and though she couldn't spell (married at 14) she managed to put that spirit into the old diary. She certainly followed Charles Cook about for my grandmother went with them to to Galveston, when Charles was in the Customs there at the time of the Civil war. My grandmother, Martha Matthews Barteau is buried in Galveston.

He was 88. Mr. Trapnell joined RKO as a reader in 1936 and soon after became a story editor and associate producer at 20th Century-Fox. “Four Star Playhouse,” which was telecast first in 1954, was a dramatic series that starred Charles Boyer, Ida Lupino, Dick Powell and David Niven. Mr Trapnell was with the show until it closed in 1956. Trapnell, also a longtime story editor at Universal Studios who taught script writing at L.A. Valley College, died Friday of a heart attack at a retirement home in Los Angeles. In the mid-1950s, Trapnell served as story editor of the classic live television series "Four Star Playhouse," a collaboration of performers Charles Boyer, Ida Lupino, David Niven and Dick Powell. "With the number of dramatic shows on TV increasing each year," Trapnell told The Times in 1954, "competition for good stories is now a dead serious business." In those years Trapnell selected 80 scripts a year to supply "Four Star" and two half-hour shows, "The Star" and "The Story."
