      This family is essentially a Nassau County clan although members have scattered in all directions. The name is still found at Hempstead and other places on Long Island.

      Thomas Rushmore^ born in England, was a blacksmith by trade and settled at Hempstead about 1648 and died there in 1682 aged 73. He married Martha Hicks by whom he had Thomas," Jacob^ and John^ — also several daughters. [3]
