Well-Loved Local Woman, Mrs. F. Byrne, Dies

Mrs. Florence M. Byrne, well-known and loved local woman, passed away Saturday morning in Huntington Park where she was visiting with Mrs. Roy L. Churchill, a daughter.

Mrs. Byrne had gone to visit with her daughter three months ago and suffered a stroke a month after her arrival. She was born 81 years ago in Iowa and as a girl went with her parents to Gold Run, one of the early mining towns in the Sierra foothills, near Dutch Flat. She had lived in Santa Cruz about 65 years, a member of the well-known Washburn family on Ocean street.

Mrs. Byrne married Charles B. Byrne of the hardware firm of Heath and Byrne, and was a member of the First Congregational church of this city. IN the church she was active in the Women’s club, connected with the Willowbrook group. She was a member of the Santa Cruz chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Byrne was preceded in death by her husband, and son, Dr. Don Byrne. She is survived by daughters, Helen, wife of Roy Cornell; and Marion, widow of Charles H. Russell, Plainfield, New Jersey. Mrs. Russell is visiting at the Walter Byrne home here.

Funeral services will be held from the Wessendorf Mortuary Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
