  Obituary	From the Hollister Free Lance, 15 Jan 1932 DEATH ENDS LONG ACTIVE CAREER OF PIONEER MRS. SARAH ANN RUE The remarkable life of Sarah Ann Rue closed today. Death took the 95-year-old local pioneer woman this morning, bringing to an end the valiant battle she had waged against the Grim Reaper the past few years. She had not been seen the past several years on the streets much, for illness, aggravated by her advanced age, had forbid that. But up to three or four years ago, she was as active and spry as a young business woman. In her nineties, when most people are content to while away the hours in a rocking Mrs. Rue operated an orchard' south of the city--successfully, too. She came to town frequently to 1ook after her own business affairs. She walked with a surprising briskskness into business houses and placed her orders with decision. She could "strike" a bargain with the acumen of a keen mind--a fair, but shrewd bargain. Active Up To 90 But her active life began to "tell" on her, at the "youthful" age of more than 90 years. Her health became impaired and for the past few years she lived a retired life. She came to this section many vears ago from her native State Pennsylvania. During her residence here, she became endeared to a host of friends throughout the county, who will be grieved to hear of her passing. Mrs. Rue was the mother of Mrs. Annie Austin and Mrs. Francis Frost, of Hollister; Mrs. Minnie Mayhew, of Berkeley; Mrs. John Isaacs, of San Diego, Fred Rue, of San Jose, and the late Mrs. James Stone. Private funeral service will be held Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock from the Black-Cooper funeral parlors until the hour of the service on Monday. A correction followed in the Free Lance on 19 Jan 1932 Late Mrs. Rue Was Not Ranch Owner In announcing the death of Mrs. Sarah Ann Rue, it was erroneously stated she owned ranch property. Mrs. Rue, for many, many years a resident in the county neither owned ranch or farm or orchard property..  [9, 10]

  Notes	Per affadavit of insanity, mother's maiden name was Brown, and there were three other siblings, all dead by 1929. In later life, was a strong proponent of the temperance movement, as evidenced by this item in Holliser Advance, 19 Sep 1922:. Other small newspaper items list her home as being on Victoria street. “In a little flower embowered cottage lives another one who after enduring many trials of Kansas' early days, settled in Hollister, and while her many' children, grandchildren and great grand children, are all about her, she prefers to live by herself, but when there is a prohibition lecture or meeting, there you will see Mrs. Sarah A. Rue..” [16]
