  Obituary	From the Brooklyn Daily Times, 31 Jul 1900 TWO WOMEN KILLED BY TRAIN Fatal Accident This Morning at Yaphank. VICTIMS FROM WADING RIVER. MRS. VALENTINE AND MRS. TINNEY DIED INSTANTLY. Their Carriage Struck by the Greenport Westbound Express - Remains Taken to the Almshouse. YAPHANK, July 30.-The Greenport express train, leaving there at 8:08 this morning, struck and killed two women at the highway crossing near the railroad station here. The women were Elizabeth Valentine, aged about sixty-five, and her daughter, Mrs. Jean Tinney, aged about forty, both of Wading River. The two women were driving from their home to the south side of the Island, Brookhaven being their destination. They probably did not notice the approach of the train, though it could have been seen a long distance away, the track being straight. The train was proceeding at full speed when the brakes were suddenly appiled and the train came to a standstill as soon as possible. The locomotive struck the horse and knocked it along the track about 100 feet, of course killing it. The carriage, a pretty red runabout, was smashed to splinters. The two women were the only occupants of the carriage. One was thrown a distance of fifty feet and the other about twenty-five feet. Both were dead when the trainmen reached them, havIng. in all probability, been killed instantly. The skull of one woman was crushed and the other one's spine seems to have been severed. Both bodies were badly bruised. The remains were conveyed to the Suffolk County Almshouse nearby, and Coroner Moore, Bay Shore, was notified. The remains were left at Almshouse, pending his arrival later in the day, and disposition of the remains. The train proceeded to Long Island City.  [2]

Seeley, of Franklinville, for many years pastor of the Congregational Church, at Wading River, was present to perform the ceremony and also to christen the infant nephew of the bride, thus combining two sacred rites on one happy occasion.  [6]
