  Obituary	From the Indianapolis Star, 5 Sep 1956: Mrs. Brinkley Dies; Funeral Tomorrow Mrs. Mattie Brinkley, 6225 Central Avenue, an Indianapolis resident for 60 years, died yesterday in her home. A native of Columbus, Mrs. Brinkley was a member of Tabernacle Christian Church there. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Flanner & Buchanan Broad Ripple Mortuary. Entombment will in Crown Hill Mausoleum. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Marguerite Brinkley and Miss Wilma Brinkley, both of Indianapolis; a granddaughter and three great-grandchildren. A son, DeVoe A. Brinkley of Indianapolis, died eight years ago.  [3]

  Notes	From the Columbus County Republic, 10 Oct 1885: Nearly a Tragedy. Emma Knotts and Mattie Stewart, two girls in the Smoky Row locality and not yet out of short dresses, both claim the affections of Ed Moyer, and the jealousy aroused by the rivalry came near terminating in a tragedy last night. Ed and the Knotts girl were taking a lover's stroll when Mattie came upon them. Crimination and recrimination led the Stewart girl to say if she had a revolver she would shoot Moyer, when he pulled a revolver from his pocket and handed it to her. Instead of carrying out her threat she started off with the revolver, followed by Moyer who was anxious to secure the weapon. Martha Greiner then appeared on the scene, called the Stewart lass some naughty names and took the part of Miss Knotts and finally slapped Miss Stewart on her damask cheek, when the revolver rang out on the still air, the bullet leaving its mark on the ear of Martha. The police then interfered and stopped further hostilities. The Stewart girl claims the revolver, a thirty-two --long was discharged accidentally while attempting to ward off the blows of Mrs. Griner. Warrants were sworn out against Moyer for carrying concealed weapons, also against Mrs. Greiner for assault and battery, and against the whole posse for disturbing the peace, At press time the cases are being tried before the Mayor.   Notes	Per a court item in the Osceola Advance, Osceola, MO, Edward filed suit for divorce against Catharine in absentia. Catharine was not living in Missouri, and was presumably still in Indiana. The suit claimed Catharine had abandoned Edward, and was committing adultery with numerous men. This would align with another item from The Republic, Columbus, IN, in which Catharine Stewart has filed suit for $500 against Andrew Ferrell for bastardy. No ruling was reported in the paper that I can find. From Graves Family History: In 1870, Catherine and Edward lived in Columbus, IN, next door to Catherine's aunt Mary (Graves) McFall. They had 3 daughters then. In the 1880 census, Catherine was shown as divorced, head of household, with 3 of her 4 daughters and 2 sons with her. The oldest daughter Jennie or Janie was living with her grandmother Jane (McKibbon) Graves. [8, 9, 10]
