    DEATH CLAIMS N. L. DRYDEN

    The county lost one of its oldest pioneer citizens when Nathaniel Leggett Dryden passed away at the home of his son, Fay Dryden, at Cottonwood this morning at the age of 86 years. He had been in poor health for the past year.

    One of the true settlers of this region, Dryden came here in 1867 and started farming near Paicines, where he spent the greater part of his life.

    Of real pioneer blood, he made the long journey across the plains in a covered wagon in 1862 from Missouri. He first settled in San Jose, but after five years came to this section.

    He will be missed as one of the county's most active citizens and ardent workers. He had a remarkable memory and often recounted tales of the sturdy pioneering life of the realy days. A life-long scholar and avid reader, he was probably the best versed man in the county in American history and American folklore.

    He was loved by hundreds throughout the county as a kindly, generous man and his passing will be learned by his friends with a distinct shock.

    Surviving him, besides the son, are a sister, Mrs. U. A. Ebi, of this city, and a brother, Henry Dryden, of Dos Palos.

    The funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the M. E. Church South, with Rev. C. A. Rexroad officiating. He was a life-long member of that church. Burial will be made in Odd Fellows Cemetery, under the direction of the Black-Cooper funeral parlors:.  [4]
