Text A Battle Creek correspondent says: "On the 2d inst. (2 Jul 1877) Capt. Amos Rowley, of San Francisco, Cal., came here on a visit to the relatives whom he bad not heard from in thirty years. He is a brother of Spencer Rowley, who formerly lived in Barry county, and who died in the army during the war. Amos Rowley left his home in Georgia some thirty years ago. It was supposed that be was shipwrecked and lost at sea, as he was never heard of until he unexpectedly put in his appearance on tbe 2d inst. Accidentally he met in San Francisco Mr. Charles Byrne, who married a sister of his brother's wife. From Byrne he learned that Battle Creek was the dwelling place of his brother's children, and he started for this city. He bas been stopping with Mrs. Susan Robinson, corner of West and Champion streets, who is mother of his brother's wife, now deceased. Last Monday night he retired as usual, and on Tuesday morning got up about four o'clock, it is supposed, to take a walk down town, since which time ho bas not been seen or beard of. The captain is reported to be quite wealthy, and it is feared that there bas been foul play. His disappearance is certainly very mysterious. The officers have been notified, and it is hoped that the mystery will soon be cleared up.
