    Text Funeral services have been held for Herbert Earl Olmsted who died July 13 at his Pacific Grove home following a brief illness. He was 94.

    Born in Cambria, Calif., Mr. Olmsted grew up in Santa Cruz and played with various music bands on the Municipal wharf.

    During the silent movie era, Mr. Olmsted worked for Paramount and Disney Productions. A commercial artist and cartoonist, he retired as an illustrator from the Oakland Tribune. A musician for most of his life, Mr. Olmstead played the French horn with the John Philip Souza band in 1915. He later performed with many symphonies in San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

    Before moving to Monterey, he resided in Watsonville.

    Mr. Olmsted was a veteran of World War I.

    He is survived by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriet Bryne Olmsted who died in Santa Cruz in 1971.

    Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove, was in charge of arrangements. Inurnment was at IOOF Cemetery. Contributions to your favorite charity' are preferred.
