    Text DEATH OF U. S. NICHOLS.

    On Sunday evening Urial Schermerham Nichols died at his home on Union St. after an illness of several weeks.

    Death was caused by enlargement of the liver and Brlght's disease. Deceased came to Santa Cruz in 1865, after he had served in the Civil War. He was a carpenter by trade. Twice he was elected Constable of Santa Cruz Township. He leaves a widow and two daughters, Clara and Lois. He was a member of the Masons and Wallace-Reynolds Post, G. A. R. He was a Past Commander of Wallace Post.

    When the war began he enlisted in Co. B, 97th New York Volunteers. He served as Sergeant in the Quartermaster's Department. He was in the First Corps. After the battle of Gettysburg he was transferred to the Fifth Corps. Deceased participated at Slaughter Mountain, second engagement at Bull Run, Rappahannock, Fredricksburg, Chantilla and Antietam.
