    Editors Citizen:

Permit me through your paper to state the numerous friends of this regiment that we are now located at Jackson, Tennessee, where we hope to remain for a month or two longer. Our company, E, is with some exceptions, in good health, though at present living on half rations. Most of the recent recruits have been discharged, not being able to endure the hardships and fatigues of camp and cavalry life. The boys from Jackson and vicinity are well except Rufus Byrne and George Stone, both good and true soldiers. Indeed I have not a poor soldier in my command. And although we left home with the name of 'roughs' we claim to have made our title to the name perfectly clear since geting down into rebeldom.

Please say to our friends that at present our facilities for getting letters are much better than usual; and if directed as above will hardly fail to reach us promptly.

    M. M. Lattimer
    Captain Co. E
