From Amelia Byrne Williams: What I know about him (Charles) is minimal. He supposedly as a young man (maybe teenager) worked for a variety store in Jackson(?) and suggested that they put a table outside with things costing 5 & 10 cents and it was a big hit and continued by the store , starting the theme “5 & dime”. He was one of the first 5 employees of a hardware company (American Fork & Hoe) which took him to NY {Plainfield NJ) . . where he worked the rest of his life, traveling in to NY on the train each day.

Charles married BYRNE, Marion Josephine on 15 Aug 1893 in 146 Lansing Ave, Jackson, Jackson, MI, USA. Marion (daughter of BYRNE, Charles Benjamin and ROBINSON, Josephine) was born on 3 Dec 1870 in Van Buren, MI USA; died on 10 Nov 1946 in Plainfield, Uniion, NJ USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Russell-Byrne - Tuesday evening, Aug 15, 1893 at the residence of the bride’s cousin, Mrs. G. W. Scotford, 146 Lansing avenue, by Rev E. R. Curry, Charles H Russell and Marion J Byrne, both of Jackson.

The wedding was a quiet, but pretty affair, none but relatives of the contracting parties being in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Russell will reside at 146 Steward Ave.
