    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Obituary: From Friends Intelligencer: VALENTINE: On First month 29th, at the home of her niece Lydia, in Pinkham, South Norwalk, Conn.: Lydia P. (Mott) Valentine, in her 92nd year. This Friend was for very many years a constant reader of the Friends Intelligencer almost up to the time of her death, when her failing sight forced her to give it up. She was the last descendant of an old Long Island Friends' family, was born at the Mott homestead, Wheatly Hills, L. I. The estate was owned by her grandfather, James Mott, who first introduced to the public as the owner, proprietor and operator, of a tow-story miil in which was manufactured linen, woolen goods and carpets. His motive power is familiar to many people still living as original as well as ingenious, being supplied entirely by ocean breezes. He was assisted in his business by his son, Stephen Mott, father of Lydia P. (Mott) Valentine. He lived there until 1840, when he moved to Jericho, L. I., where Lydia lived until her marriage to Hiram P. Perry, a New York, shipbuilder. He died in three years. She subsequently married William M. Valentine, of Roslyn, and lived there until his untimely death. He was assaulted by two negroes on his own lawn while returning from business and died some time later from his injuries. Since his death she made her home in Flushing, Long Island, and removed her certificate of membership to that meeting where she has been a member until the time of her death. William C. Perry, of Darien, is a grandson. "Aunty Lydia," as she was familiarly known, was loved by all who knew her, was very active despite her years, enjoyed her daily papers and her Friends' books. Her death was her life - a peaceful, calm, beautiful sleep. Interment at the Friends' burying ground at Westbury, Long Island.
