- Obituary: VALENTINE - On Second-day, Third month 9. 1903 at his home in Brooklyn, N.Y., Samuel T. Valentine, in his 83d year; a life-long member of the Society of Friends. Samuel Titus Valentine was born in New York City, Eighth month 4, 1820, being the only son of Stephen and Ann Titus Valentine. He was descended on both sides from old and well-known Quaker families. He entered his father’s store in 1835, at the age of fifteen, and was admitted as a partner in 1843, continuing the business up to the time of his death, running over a period of almost seventy years. His father, Stephen Valentine, being one of the founders of the New York Produce Exchange, he early in life joined the Exchange, and at his death was next to the oldest member. A man of the strictest integrity in business life, always living up to his word, fair and just in all his dealings with his associates, he enjoyed the respect and regard of all who came in contact with him. He is survived by four children, two sons and two daughters.

God calls his loved ones home to rest. We doubt not this dear mother was prepared to meet her Heavenly Father, although she received her summons at an unexpected moment. She was a devoted wife and mother, freely sacrificing her own enjoyment for the comfort of those around her, and the many deeds of kindness made her a good friend to all. Her pleasant, quiet influence will be greatly missed in her home circle by her many friends.

Notes:
My original notes on Henry/Harry, which I believe came from Edna Valentine (I failed to source original info), appeared to have a marriage date for Henry Valentine and Edna Luyster of 21 Dec 1917. However, the NY Times announcement of Edna Luyster’s second marriage in 1921 mentions that her first husband had died in 1917. Moreover, there is a census record for Henry and Edna living together married in Oyster Bay in 1910, stating they had been married five years. Have verified through Brooklyn Eagle Obit that he died 21 Dec 1917.
While I have found Henry/Harry listed in multiple genealogical database as Henry Hewlett Valentine, I’ve yet to see that name properly sourced, and have repeatedly found him listed as Henry Webber Valentine (including his death notice).
Harry was an early automobile enthusiast, and is listed in the 1914 Automobile Owners Directory as the proud owner of a Willys.Henry married LUYSTER, Edna about 1905. Edna (daughter of LUYSTER and Sarah) was born on 27 Feb 1880 in Glen Cove, Nassau, New York, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

- Obituary: Los Angeles Times, Feb 4, 1999 Coles Trapnell; Television Writer Produced 'Maverick' February 04, 1999 |MYRNA OLIVER | TIMES STAFF WRITER Coles Trapnell, early television writer and producer whose series included "Maverick," has died at age 88. Trapnell, also a longtime story editor at Universal Studios who taught script writing at L.A. Valley College, died Friday of a heart attack at a retirement home in Los Angeles. In the mid-1950s, Trapnell served as story editor of the classic live television series "Four Star Playhouse," a collaboration of performers Charles Boyer, Ida Lupino, David Niven and Dick Powell. "With the number of dramatic shows on TV increasing each year," Trapnell told The Times in 1954, "competition for good stories is now a dead serious business." In those years Trapnell selected 80 scripts a year to supply "Four Star" and two half-hour shows, "The Star" and "The Story." In addition to currying known Hollywood writers, Trapnell sought top-quality material in UCLA theater arts classes and trade publications. From 1959 to 1962, Trapnell wrote his own stories and produced Warner Bros.' "Maverick," which launched James Garner as a star. Trapnell also wrote for the Western series "Lawman" and "Yancy Derringer." A native of New York, Trapnell was educated at Virginia Military Institute and New York University and began his career as a journalist on the Glen Cove Record. He moved to Hollywood in 1936 as a reader at RKO and then worked for 20th Century Fox as story editor and associate producer until 1953. He was story editor at Universal from 1962 until his retirement in 1975. In 1966, Trapnell wrote a well-received book titled "Teleplay," a guide for aspiring scriptwriters. Survivors include two daughters, Sarah Trapnell Byrne of Palo Alto and Jane Trapnell Marino of New York, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, in Westwood Memorial Park. The family has asked that any memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Assn.
