    • Obituary: From NY Times, 3 Feb 1993: Antony Kloman, 89, Painter and Art Patron Published: February 03, 1993 Antony J. T. Kloman, a retired artist and supporter of the arts, died Thursday at a hospital in Bradenton, Fla. He was 89 and lived in Newport, R.I. He died of pneumonia, his family said. Mr. Kloman, who was a portrait painter specializing in children, worked through Portraits Inc. in Manhattan. He helped organize the Institute of Contemporary Arts, a museum in London, and was its first program director. As president of the Newport Preservation Society, he was a leader in the efforts to restore that city's historic mansions. He also served on the board of the Newport Music Festival, an annual series of classical music concerts. Mr. Kloman was born in Haymarket, Va., and grew up in Portland, Me., and Fargo, S.D. He graduated from Washington College in Chestertown, Md., in 1928. In World War II he served with the Office of Strategic Services, helping supervise the training of secret agents. He also served as an operative in London and Scandinavia. Mr. Kloman is survived by his wife of 32 years, the former Muriel Winthrop; a sister, Anne Hunter Jenkins of Ashville N.C., and two stepchildren, Harold Sands of London and Emmy Heppenheimer of East Hampton, L.I.
