    • Obituary: From the Santa Cruz Evening News 03 Feb 1920 Dr. Don Byrne Passes Away At Los Banos Santa Cruzans generally will be greatly shocked to hear of the death this morning at Los Banos of Dr. Don Byrne, successful young dentist of this city, son of a pioneer family, who recently left for the Merced county town to practice his profession. Dr. Byrne was stricken with double pneumonia a short time ago and it was known during the past few days among his relatives here that his chances for recovery were slight. His devoted mother, to whom he was greatly attached, was sent for last Friday and immediately' left Santa Cruz for Los Banos in an automobile, arriving there at 11 o'clock at night. She was at the bedside when her son breathed his last this morning. Dr. Byrne was stricken with pneumonia about a year ago and at that time his life hung in the balance for a few days before he was out of danger. It is believed that the attack weakened him and he was hardly prepared for this last attack. The sympathy of the entire community will be extended Mrs. Florence Byrne, the mother, in her terrible sorrow. She was only recently preparing to move to Los Banos to make her home with her son who had met with flattering success in his new .field and who had just established himself with Dr. B. H. Bush in a new hospital at Los Banos. A sister of the deceased, Mrs. Roy Cornell, resides in Los Angeles. Walter and George Byrne, the local hardware merchants, are first cousins of the deceased. The father, the late C. B. Byrne of this city, passed away about ten years ago in this city. Dr. Don Byrne was born in Santa Cruz about thirty years ago.
