    From Graves family history:

William M. Greaves or Graves (4) was born 23 Dec. 1800 in Ohio, the year his parents settled in Zanesville, Muskingum Co., OH, and died 23 Dec. 1875. His middle name may have been Mode. He was about 24 years old when he moved to Indiana with his parents, brothers and sisters. He was a carpenter, according to the census records. William helped to establish and train at least 2 of his sons-in-law in the carpenter trade, and it is said that he and his son-in-law, Edward Stewart, worked together as carpenters.

Edward Stewart was born in 1842 in Pennsylvania. His name is also spelled Stewert and Steward, but Stewart seems to be the way the name was spelled on the gravestones of the family. Edward was a carpenter, and is said to have worked with his father-in-law William M. Graves. If so, he would also have worked with Mrs. Botkin's ancestor, George Walter Riddle, who married Catherine's niece. What searching has been done indicates that Edward probably moved to Indianapolis after the divorce.

    • Obituary: From the Neodesha Daily Sun: Funeral of Mrs Beers Tomorrow The remains of Mrs. D.B. Beers will arrive this afternoon from Grayton, Iowa, and will be taken direct to the home of Mrs. E.S. Jenkins, 712 Indiana. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, at 2 o'clock from the Christian Church conducted by Elder Wm. E. L. Shane, assisted by the Rev. I. B. Pulliam. The husband, two sons and two daughters will accompany the remains, one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Clark, being unable to stand the trip. Josephine Rue was born in Ohio December 17, 1856. She came with her parents to Johnson county, Kansas in 1865 and to Neodesha in 1868, locating on the farm now owned by N. M. Tanquary, which her father, G. C. Rue, purchased before the town of Neodesha was established, when there was nothing but a trading post at the foot of the Little Bear mound. She was united in marriage with Charles Leigan July 22, 1872. To that union was born 11 children, four boys and seven girls. Two children died in infancy and one son, Geo. A, died December 16, 1912 at Hollister, Calif. Those surviving her are W. J. C., of Bartlesville, Okla, C. T. of Atlantic, W.R. and Mrs. Alma Leigan, of Brayton, Mrs. Blanch Clark of Spaulding, Iowa, and Mrs. Estella Goodwin of Wyota, Iowa, Mrs. E. S. Jenkins and Mrs. Wm. Grimm of Neodesha. Mr. Leigan died July 31, 1900. Mr. Leigan was a farmer and they lived near Neodesha most of the time and in the city at intervals, and with the exception of two years spent in California shortly after their marriage, this vicinity was their home until Mr. Leigan's death. They reared a large family and eight children survive the mother. Mrs. Leigan was indeed a pioneer of this section and faced with courage and energy the conflicts and trials of early life in the new country, always faithful to the duties of a mother and was a true help-mate to her husband, ever ready to help however strenuous the task. She joined the Christian Church early in life and was a faithful and consistent woman and a kind and obliging neighbor and friend and will be sadly missed by her children and friends. December 24, 1902, Mrs. Leigan was married to D. B. Beers of Brayton, who with her mother, one brother and four sisters in California, eight children and sixteen grand-children, survive her.

    KILLED IN AN ORIENT WRECK

Rue and Fieland Yield Up Their Lives at the Post of Duty

One of the worst wrecks in the history of the Orient railroad occurred near Braithwaite a few miles south of Clinton, Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock, when a south bound freight train turned turtle and went into the ditch, killing two members of the train crew, and dangerously injuring two more.

The wrecked train was a freight, made up of engine, tender and six coal cars Saturday morning a crew was ordered out to take an engine to Clinton to have the flues of the boiler washed out, and as all the regular crews were out on their runs, a special crew Was made up of the switch gang in the yards. They made the run to Clinton, washed the boiler, and while preparing to return were ordered to take back a train instead of running light

Everything went smoothly until the village of Braithwait was al most reached, when suddenly the engine turned over and the cars left the track It is thought that either broken or spreading rails were responsible for the wreck Foreman C W Rue, of the switching crew was instantly killed, also Mr Fieland, who was acting as helper. Engineer Jack Trumbolt's knees were crushed, and he received other injuries which will render him a cripple for life Fireman Walter Barker received painful injuries, his back being scalded by escaping steam, and he was badly bruised .

Trumbolt was taken to Wichita Kas , and the body of Fieland to Kansas City. C W Rue and Freman Barker were both brought to Altus, where they reside Both are under the care of Dr Miller, the company's surgeon at this place They are getting along as well as could be expected The train crew are all well known in Altus, and the accident has cast a gloom over all their friends The injured men are receiving every attention, and it is earnestly hoped that they may recover

From Oakland Tribune, 19 Jul 1929:

Hollister Airport Reports Record Growth in Activity

HOLLISTER, July 19. A landmark for airmen because of being the home of what are reputed to be the largest hay warehouse in the world, with the name of Hollister painted thereon, six regular cross-state airlines now fly planes over this city on regular schedules, Robert Rideout, manager of the community airport here, reports. The lines using Hollister as an air lane guides are: Pickwick Airways, Pacific Air Transport, Western Air Express, Maddux Air Lines, West Coast Air Transport, and Continental Air Express. Rideout also revealed that this city's claim to being the home of the first commercial airline in California is recognized among pioneer airmen, this company being started by Cecil W. Buckley and James Stone, the latter stepfather of the former, both of Hollister. Buckley started the service immediately after leaving the United States army air corps in 1920. They flew a regular route between here, San Jose, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Watsonvllle, and Salinas, but quit because of lack of patronage. They carried both "a passenger" and merchandise. Buckley is now piloting a commercial ship on a Havana airline.
