- Obituary: VALENTINE - On Second-day, Third month 9. 1903 at his home in Brooklyn, N.Y., Samuel T. Valentine, in his 83d year; a life-long member of the Society of Friends. Samuel Titus Valentine was born in New York City, Eighth month 4, 1820, being the only son of Stephen and Ann Titus Valentine. He was descended on both sides from old and well-known Quaker families. He entered his father’s store in 1835, at the age of fifteen, and was admitted as a partner in 1843, continuing the business up to the time of his death, running over a period of almost seventy years. His father, Stephen Valentine, being one of the founders of the New York Produce Exchange, he early in life joined the Exchange, and at his death was next to the oldest member. A man of the strictest integrity in business life, always living up to his word, fair and just in all his dealings with his associates, he enjoyed the respect and regard of all who came in contact with him. He is survived by four children, two sons and two daughters.
