    • Obituary: From the Neodesha Daily Sun: Funeral of Mrs Beers Tomorrow The remains of Mrs. D.B. Beers will arrive this afternoon from Grayton, Iowa, and will be taken direct to the home of Mrs. E.S. Jenkins, 712 Indiana. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, at 2 o'clock from the Christian Church conducted by Elder Wm. E. L. Shane, assisted by the Rev. I. B. Pulliam. The husband, two sons and two daughters will accompany the remains, one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Clark, being unable to stand the trip. Josephine Rue was born in Ohio December 17, 1856. She came with her parents to Johnson county, Kansas in 1865 and to Neodesha in 1868, locating on the farm now owned by N. M. Tanquary, which her father, G. C. Rue, purchased before the town of Neodesha was established, when there was nothing but a trading post at the foot of the Little Bear mound. She was united in marriage with Charles Leigan July 22, 1872. To that union was born 11 children, four boys and seven girls. Two children died in infancy and one son, Geo. A, died December 16, 1912 at Hollister, Calif. Those surviving her are W. J. C., of Bartlesville, Okla, C. T. of Atlantic, W.R. and Mrs. Alma Leigan, of Brayton, Mrs. Blanch Clark of Spaulding, Iowa, and Mrs. Estella Goodwin of Wyota, Iowa, Mrs. E. S. Jenkins and Mrs. Wm. Grimm of Neodesha. Mr. Leigan died July 31, 1900. Mr. Leigan was a farmer and they lived near Neodesha most of the time and in the city at intervals, and with the exception of two years spent in California shortly after their marriage, this vicinity was their home until Mr. Leigan's death. They reared a large family and eight children survive the mother. Mrs. Leigan was indeed a pioneer of this section and faced with courage and energy the conflicts and trials of early life in the new country, always faithful to the duties of a mother and was a true help-mate to her husband, ever ready to help however strenuous the task. She joined the Christian Church early in life and was a faithful and consistent woman and a kind and obliging neighbor and friend and will be sadly missed by her children and friends. December 24, 1902, Mrs. Leigan was married to D. B. Beers of Brayton, who with her mother, one brother and four sisters in California, eight children and sixteen grand-children, survive her.
