"The wedding ceremonies took place in the open air in front of the Sinagogue at sun set. And the supper was served in a big place hired for that purpose. After the celebration & dancing, each one left for their quarters, and I was taken to the bride's home into a large room with old broken furniture and 2 beds, one for me and one for the bride. And because we were not allowed as yet to live together, a third sleeping place was prepared on the floor for Eva Hershfield, a girl of about 9 or 10 years to act as a guard."
